....The expensive, decades-long effort to restore the greenback cutthroat trout to Colorado's Front Range apparently misfired, inadvertently populating lakes and streams with the wrong fish.

That conclusion, reached in a new study led by researchers at the University of Colorado, has the potential to radically reshape a program under way since the early 1970s to restore Colorado's official state fish to its native habitat....
