Senator Nancy Spence

Senate District 27 - Centennial, Greenwood Village, eastern Arapahoe County

Nancy Spence is in her second term in the State Senate after serving 6 years in the State House. Her senate district includes portions of Arapahoe County from Greenwood Village on the west to Deer Trail on the I-70 corridor.

Before being elected to the state house she served 13 years on the Cherry Creek Schools Board of Education and is currently the ranking Republican member of the Senate Education Committee. Spence is focused on reform in education and has introduced numerous bills over the years that have given school choice to parents from vouchers to charter schools as well as innovative schools.

Education Advocate
Sen. Spence has been a champion for education issues in Colorado. In 2010 she was co-prime sponsor of the teacher tenure and evaluation measure – considered to be one of the most important education bills in the nation.

Community Involvement
In addition to serving on the Cherry Creek School Board, Spence has also supported the community by board of director appointments to Craig Hospital, Developmental Pathways, Cherry Creek Schools Foundation, and other boards.

Serving Colorado
As a member of the General Assembly, Spence has been Assistant Senate Minority Leader, Minority Whip, and Chairman of the House Education Committee. Her current committee assignments include the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Transportation Committee.

Sen. Spence has been recognized for her commitment to the state by the American Heart Association, National Federation of Small Business, Colorado Assn. of Libraries, Colorado Alliance for Reform in Education, Colorado Home Builders, Colorado League of Charter Schools, and many others.
