Meet Senate Minority Whip Kevin Grantham

In 2010 Senator Kevin Grantham was elected to the Colorado State Senate by the voters of Senate District 2. In 2011 Sen. Grantham was elected by his fellow caucus members to serve as Senate Minority Whip.

During the 2012 legislative session, Sen. Grantham’s focus was towards creating more transparency in government and removing barriers for small businesses.

- Senate Bill 132 would have required that air and water quality permits be issued within 12 months of application.

- Senate Bill 81 would prohibit local governments from mandating that a sprinkler system be installed in a single family dwelling.

- House Bill 1068 creates more transparency in cemetery operations. It requires that cemeteries make available to those who own plots, crypts, etc. copies of the balance sheet, income statement, and cash-flow statement; minutes of board meetings for the last 3 years; a current copy of the bylaws or articles of incorporation; and other provisions.

Before becoming a legislator Sen. Grantham worked in several different professions. He was a hog farmer, sports reporter, onion processing plant employee, highway construction crew worker, restaurant manager, real estate broker and appraiser. Sen. Grantham currently is a commercial real estate appraiser in Cañon City.

Sen. Grantham and his wife Caroline make their home in Cañon City. They have two children Raychel and Justin.
