Marble Bill to Provide School Choice Fails

February 14, 2013

Today, the Senate Education Committee voted to stop Senator Vicki Marble’s (R-Fort Collins) Senate Bill 69, the Quality Education and Budget Reduction Act, which would allow parents to claim income tax credits for their spending on private school tuition or home-based education.

“This bill gives parents the freedom to pursue the best educational path for their children,” said Marble. “Every child flourishes in a different environment. This bill gives parents the opportunity to find the learning environment where their child is most comfortable.”

The tax credit is equal to half of state per-student spending for parents who send their children to private schools, approximately $3,200 per student. A credit of $1,000 per student is available for parents who choose to homeschool their children.
