Vail, CO- Mark Scheffel was awarded the 2011 Champion of Main Street Award by the Independent Bankers of Colorado at their annual membership conference in Vail. The Independent Bankers of Colorado (IBC) takes time each year to honor state lawmakers who understand, value, and champion local community banks and small businesses.
Recipients of the IBC’s Champion of Main Street Colorado Award are lawmakers who work in the best interest of local communities. They keep “Main Street” a priority above the roar of competing interests at the statehouse.
“Mark thoroughly understands the importance of focusing and promoting the health of Colorado’s small businesses. He realizes that small business development and strong support of local economies are the only way to bring the whole state of Colorado out of the current recession,” said Barbara Walker, Executive Director of IBC after the award ceremony. “Colorado’s foundation needs to continue to be durable, local small businesses. Mark focuses on legislation to keep Colorado’s small business thriving.”
Senator Scheffel has been dedicated to reducing the burden the business personal property tax places on small business owners and fighting unnecessary regulation that inhibits small business growth. Senator Scheffel stays busy during legislative session as minority caucus chair and serves on the Judiciary, Legislative Council, Congressional Redistricting and Finance Committees.
The Independent Bankers of Colorado represent over 400 community bank locations throughout Colorado.
