Today, Senate Democrats voted to pass a union supported bill sponsored by Senator Lois Tochtrop (D-Thornton) that even former Democrat Governor Bill Ritter vetoed in 2009. The bill would impose a huge, new unfunded mandate on local governments.
“The voters of Colorado Springs have voted to defeat this concept,” Senate Minority Leader Bill Cadman (R-Colorado Springs) said. “The Mayors of Colorado Springs and Boulder both testified against this bill.”
Senator Cadman continued, “This bill puts jobs at risk and takes away local control from towns and cities of all sizes. They will be forced to act as ‘tax collectors’ for unions and their dues. In fact, this bill is a direct violation of Senate Joint Resolution 12-006 passed last year and signed into law prohibiting unfunded mandates on local government.”
