Dems Kill K-12 Education Funding Amendment

February 1, 2013

Today, Senator Ted Harvey (R-Highlands Ranch) offered an amendment to Senate Bill 133 that would have directed $7.3 million into K-12 education instead of giving the bureaucrats in the executive agencies greater authority to spend that money as they see fit. The amendment was defeated by the Senate Democrats on a party-line vote.

“I’m disappointed by the Senate Democrats efforts to block additional K-12 education funding,” Harvey said. “Instead of funding a school’s music programs, the Democrats chose to give more money to unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats.”

SB 133 changes the distribution of Limited Gaming Funds to various programs in the Governor’s Office including Tourism Promotion, Bioscience, Creative Industries, and Film Incentives and increased overall spending on these programs by $7.3 million. Senator Harvey’s amendment would have instead directed the $7.3 million increase to K-12 education.
